Vicki Ward
Vicki Ward knows how to turn dreams into reality. Her passion as a writer coupled with her editing skills led to the creation of what Black Issues Book Review calls "a book that is peppered with candor, dabbed with sassiness and covered with wisdom gained from living... supplying readers glimpses into other cultures plus advice." The publishing industry is experiencing a renaissance. Small presses are taking over where large pressed have left off.

Vicki Ward is part of that revolution. In 2003, Nubian Images Publishing was born. It's a small press with a culture and gender focus, publishing books written by women of color on subjects important to society. It wasn't easy to break into the world of publishing, but Vicki Ward was driven and determined. She funded the operation through her salary, and loans.

At the Los Angeles Black Book Expo In May 2005, Vicki accepted the award "Best Anthology for 2005" for Life's Spices from Seasoned Sistahs. In May 2006 in a ceremony in Washington DC, Vicki proudly stepped forward to accept the ForeWord Magazine "Silver Book of the Year 2005" Award for Life's Spices From Seasoned Sistahs.

In the fall of 2005, the book was placed in the permanent collection of the African American Museum and Library in Oakland, California. The Museum and Library archived the book for future generations, and also it digitally recorded the words and voices of local contributing authors.

Vicki Ward has presented before Soroptimist groups, American Business Women, Berkeley High School, San Francisco, Library, Channel 29 San Francisco, Women of Color Conference, U. C. Berkeley, Ca. and more. She is working on several new collections, "Knowing What you Want, and Getting it after 50", to be published in 2007, "Seasoned Sistahs Presents: Breast Cancer stories from Women of Color, a first of its kind; cancer survival from the point of view of women of color, to be published in 2008 and "More of Life's Spices Seasoned Sistahs are Still Keepin' It Real" due out in 2008.

Vicki is passionate about her seasoned view of life. This view re-affirms the need for strong bonds between women. Notable in today's society, family composition has changed, and gone are our nurturing rituals, and the support women in the past have always provided each other. Nubian Images Publishing was born of that spirit, and will continue nurturing sistahs.
