Breast Cancer Stories from Women of Color Submissions

Nubian Images Publishing will publish the next volume of Seasoned Sistahs stories from the voices of women of color in 2008, those seldom heard voices, which speaks volumes to, and unite all women. We want your stories, detailing the events you experienced. Though painful to relive, they are your truths. This is your opportunity to share these intimate moments enduring a life threatening ordeal, and yet conquering it successfully.

You'll find solace in sharing your experiences-for yourself and for other sistahs. There are many women who have barely thought about this disease who will gain knowledge, and empowerment reading from your struggle. These same women may someday walk a similar journey, wiser through your words.

Submit your story or dated journal entries you kept while going through this journey. The book will focus on the following:

• Did you discover a lump in your breast
• Did your doctor find the lump in your breast
• How did you share the news with your family
• What treatment options were you offered?
• Which ones did you choose?
• What was the outcome of your treatment?
• What side effects did you have from your treatment?
• What helped you most, faith, or family?
• Did you have a mastectomy?
• Did you have reconstructive surgery? What was the outcome of the surgery?
• What were some things you did to keep normalcy in your life?
• Did you participate in a support group? Did you find this helpful?
• Tell about family, or friend; someone who you leaned on for support
• Tell about someone in the medical profession who was especially supportive
• Tell about how long you have been cancer free
• Tell how your life has been changed by your illness?

We want to include your stories; those that make us laugh, and cry, or become like that supportive person you describe. Submissions are due by December 31, 2007. Email attachement file submissions must be in MICROSOFT WORD no more than 2000 words. Manuscripts may be submitted electronically on the Seasoned Sistahs website or cut and paste into an email and send to wardvl@yahoo.com, on subject line put Breast Cancer Stories from Women of Color Submissions, or mail to Nubian Images Publishing P O Box 1462 Brentwood California 94513. Writers are encouraged to include names and addresses of support groups, resource centers, hospitals, medical personnel, etc. with your submission, to be included in the resource section of the book. For all manuscripts accepted for publication author will be listed in the biographical section and will receive 2 copies of the book upon publication.
